Dental Hygiene - Gingivitis
Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal (gum) disease. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene, which leads to plaque buildup.
Other factors that may contribute to gingivitis include, diabetes, smoking, aging, genetic predisposition, systemic diseases and conditions, stress, inadequate nutrition, puberty, hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, substance abuse, HIV infection, and certain medication use. |

The bacteria in dental plaque irritate the gums and cause infection. When your body launches an immune response against these invaders, the gums become inflamed. People with gingivitis usually experience little or no discomfort. Therefore, it is important to recognize the symptoms, such as gums that are red, swollen or bleed easily.
Gingivitis in all age groups is caused primarily by local irritants. It is nearly always reversible. The usual signs of gingivitis are gums which are swollen and bleed on brushing.
Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good home oral care. However, if gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. |

• Gums that itch with varying degrees of severity.
• Bright-red, or purple gums.
• Mouth sores.
• Shiny gums.
• Painless gums, except when pressure is applied.
• Receding gumline, "horsey" looking teeth. |

Gingivitis - it is reversable
Regular oral hygiene utilizing a Tea Tree Oil based mouth wash, dental floss (impregnated with Tea Tree Oil), and a Tea Tree Oil based tooth paste or polish with a correct brushing regimen will greatly assist in the control if not eradication of Gingivitis.
Tea Tree Oil acts as both an oral fungicide and antiseptic in the care and maintenance of healthy teeth and gums.
Additionally Tea Tree Oil with a Cineol content of Max. 5% is effective against Golden Staph. Natural Tea Tree Oil is a powerful aid in supplementing good oral hygiene.
Dr. Robert Hirsch, a senior dentistry lecturer at the University of Adelaide is reported to have said that Tea Tree Oil works in a new way by penetrating inflamed gums and easing (gum disease) symptoms. Dr. Hirsch stated that this is different to anything dentists have used up till now, and Tea Tree Oil may have application as an agent in getting other products into the tissues (Sept. 2004).
